Fri 4 Sep 2026 - 16:00-18:30 Special Event at RWY: A New Mythology for Plymouth Sound (including a boat trip)

Ahoy! Join Plymouth Laureate of Words, R.C. Thomas on a journey out on Plymouth Sound to explore mythologies, folktales and legends. Taking inspiration from the sea and the stories that have come before us, this collaborative and immersive workshop will see participants writing our very own tale, sharing with future generations our experiences of the creatures lurking deep in Plymouth’s waters in 2026.

Beginning onshore, you’ll be briefed and allocated tasks, before heading out on a boat around Plymouth Sound to collect all the evidence we’ll need to document our seafaring encounters. Back on shore, we’ll look over our findings and prepare to share them with the public.

This workshop will lead to a live event in 2027 in which our tale will be told. This part will be optional and will also be open to others joining us to tell our story. This will be a family event (8+) for all abilities, no writing experience necessary.
